Neil Hamburger "Sings Country Winners"

mug_mug_mug [Edit] [Delete] 13:40, 20 February '10

This must be the best 'comedian turns musician' album ever created. I can actually still laugh and enjoy these songs on the millionth listen in a way that it isn't possible to with such 'legends' as Weird Al and Sepultura feat Pavarotti. It's an album of genuinely great songs that set out to be funny and end up being strangely touching at the same time. Most of the album seems to be about Neil's life and how much of a weight it is on his back. Sample lyrics:

"Please ask that clown to stop crying. Doesn't he know i'm turning 7?"

"I once met a man with no legs, who asked me to carry him to his grave"

"I'm on the ledge outside my window
The ground is ten stories below
As I look down, the crowd look up
Wondering whether I'll jump or nooooooooo-ot!" (this one is more about the delivery of the word 'not'. So funny)

"The darkness that invades our thoughts, the album that no one bought"

Enjoy the funny/angry/poignant "The Recycle Bin"
