The 'Echoes' fuck up

dis-integration [Edit] [Delete] 16:12, 21 May '10

On the subject of DFA and THAT cokemachineglow review (seeing as how it seems to be the main topic at the moment), does anyone have any hindsight whatsoever as to how The Rapture managed to fuck up so badly after Echoes?

Say what you like, but as far as these ears are concerned it's still an absolutely incredible album, managing to reference a whole load of things without sounding like a rip-off, and full of the kind of angsty, nervous energy that made it feel as though it was about to explode with the tension. When it did (the title track) it felt like the entire album's fabric was being pulled apart.

Both the two albums/EPs they released before Echoes were also great. Not as groundshakingly brilliant, but Out Of The Races was and still is a fantastic slab of aggy dance-post-punk stuff.

Pieces of the People We Love, on the other hand, was abject shite (possibly barring 'The Sound'). And then they just disappeared. How did this happen?
