Music Social More…

This has already been a fab year for instrumental music hasn't it?

terminus_est [Edit] [Delete] 22:22, 2 June '10

So much exciting instrumental stuff coming out recently: I've got fairly bored (haven't we all?) of bands that just try to sound like Explosions in the Sky; these have been floating my boat so far:

Emeralds - Does it look like I'm here

Obvious choice. Amazing record. Liked the review that came up here today, says it all really.

Yellow Swans - Going Places.

Immense, unclassifiable. Serious contender for album of the year, just for Foil alone.

Aidain Baker - Liminoid/Lifeforms

My other two picks get a lot of love on here, but this is up with (and in some ways supasses) both of them. I love a bit of Baker/Nadja, but he can be a bit samey, staying in the drone safety zone. Not so here: immense variety of styles, instruments and song-craft. There's so much here, I'm still hearing new things with each listen.

Sorry for getting a bit carried away... what instrumental stuff has been doing it for you this year?
