The unbearable hell of the hired wedding DJ

badgertastic [Edit] [Delete] 22:54, 19 July '10

Friends of mine got married over the weekend and the hotel venue provided the DJ for the evening do. It's fair to say that unless a close friend is performing this role the potential for a cringe-inducing evening is very high, but the DJ was just intolerably bad! A short little balding man (think of the bastard lovechild of Attilio Lomnbardo and a garden gnome) who insisted on naming every single song with an early fade as if he was on hospital radio, resolutely sticking to the 80s throughout. Worse was to come as he then started to sing along to each song, which incredibly managed to make 'Come On Eileen' even worse. The dance floor gradually cleared leaving a few drunken couples falling over each other and some weird woman dancing on her own. Hideous.
At least the lights were nice and he got the couple's names right...but you know when an evening is heading south when people start muttering that karaoke or a ceilidh band would have been preferable!
