I'm very thinly read when it comes to all things folk, and considered Arcade Fire to be a folk-indie band, and Villagers likewise.

But then a friend of mine went off on one about how these were definitely not folk, without telling me what they were.

I'm puzzled, and now reckon I've been calling bands like these folk for years incorrectly. What are they??
