No-one's ever made an album that's anything like Rated R, have they? (spinoff thread)

lemonbrickcombo [Edit] [Delete] 00:09, 12 August '10

That thread about QOTSA playing Rated R at Reading and Leeds has made me put the record back on for the first time in a couple of months. And what's jumped out at me, as always does, is that no-one that I've ever heard has ever made a record that sounds anything even remotely similar to it. I realise that's a fairly big claim to make, but think about it... Can you think of an album this heavy which isn't metal? Can you think of something this varied which still manages to flow seamlessly? Can you think of a record that whacked out which still has melodies dripping out of every pore?

Completely brilliant and completely unique. I don't think I'll ever hear anything like it as long as I live. I hope it stays that way.
