Not a new concept I know, but recently I've considered getting involved in fan funding. I like that artists get a bigger cut of their sales, don't have to pay back advances and have control over their music. But is it that straight forward and transparent?

Do the sites handle any promotion, distribution or business for the artist or are they just the platform for them to raise money for their project?

Any advice on the various sites available or fan funding in general would be greatly appreciated.
