Paris 1919

cherry_ghost [Edit] [Delete] 11:07, 16 November '10

I've just been listening to Paris 1919 by John Cale on We7, having seen he is playing the album in its entirety at Primavera. I've never listened to any of Cale's stuff before, but I abolutely love this record already. The thought struck me though, that it was instantly more radical than almost anything David Bowie achieved in the 70s (and I love Bowie) depsite being comparitively restrained and not reaching for the controversy button in the same way Bowie often does.

I guess the Berlin trilogy caught up to Paris 1919 by the end of the 70s in terms of sincerity, but it just amazed me how far ahead of the curve Cale was on his contemporaries when this was relased in 1973.

Not trolling, more interested in a debate, if anyone else is?
