The Streets new material

El_Goodo [Edit] [Delete] 05:10, 30 January '11

isn't something I've actively sought out after the last few records but a few things recently have piqued my interest.

He's just released a mixtape a week before the new (and last) album is due with some great guests on it - Wiley, Rinse, Trim, Envy, Ghostpoet and Scru Fizzer who I'd never heard before but will definitely check more from. It's excllent in places even if Skinner can't avoid dropping the clunkers every 2 minutes.

I can't decide if giving away an album's worth of material the week before asking fans to pay for one is a good marketing trick or opening up comparisons in quality between the free one and the paid for one. Especially as the supposed leaked versions of the proper album from last year were unbelievably awful.

Still, there's hope he's off on a swansong - first single with the singer from The Music has a great rock riff and is a reminder of how great Rob Harvey's voice is, hopefully he's got some other music in the pipeline soon. Although him appearing through a glory hole in the vid was a bit of a shock http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_ulRwXIzbo

The Dot Rotten remix is class and pisses all over the Diplo dubstep attempt, funny how Mike Skinner can still get the collaborators from the grime world on the mixtape and remixes.
I never thought I'd be looking forward to hearing a Streets album again, fingers crossed.
