...and it really is a truly fantastic record, the like of which I fear we will never hear again.

I think it is now structurally impossible that we will ever hear an album of this ilk (of this quality at least) at any point in the future. The industry is irreversibly wrong for it, and any band capable of writing and recording such an album will either not be given the resources or opportunity (as Darren and Julie from accounts / Branston and Febrezia the hip teenagers don't want to listen to it and won't download it), or will simply do something else that will be more likely to bring them success, like ripping off the Arcade Fire or The Human League, or just not bothering with music at all because it fucking sucks to be in a band right now.

I'm a bit drunk so please feel free to explain to me why I think I am right on this (as I probably can't express it myself right now and am not going to try), or indeed tell me I am being stupid and explain how the next great proper guitar heavy alt-rock record is just around the corner, and we don't just have a constantly polarising world of utterly crass fashion orientated indiedance against boundary pushing nonsense with nothing in between apart from White Lies to look forward to. Please?
