Advice needed with record players

fae_up_nort [Edit] [Delete] 11:20, 3 April '11

I was planning on buying my first record player (http://www.ionaudio.com/profilelp)and plugging it into my hi-fi. The problem though is that, after researching the turntable, it can only be plugged into a "line in" connection. The hi-fi i have is ancient though, from 1992, but it was a top of the range one of the time, but it only has one aux in connection. It doesn't say though if it's "phono in" or "line in" its only marked with "ld/aux in" (i think the "ld" stands for laserdisk, my hi-fi is just that old)

anyway i was needing some advice and i though "these drowned in sound folk seem like knowledgeable wee chaps" so the question is: whats the connection on my hi-fi more likely to be? can i buy this turntable? and if not does anyone have any recommendation to what a good, reasonably priced, first record player would be or even if it can play on my hi-fi is there something else i should be getting instead of the ion?

This is my first record player though and i don't really know what im talking about, so apologies if all of what i've said before is just rubbish...
