Good music-making software (preferably freecentric)

EustaceHPlimsoll [Edit] [Delete] 21:02, 29 June '11

I have a guitar, I have a microphone, I have a laptop with Garageband, I have recorded some songs... but I'm quite limited by the ridculously inflexible (it seems to me) drum options on Garageband.

You have to choose from a (medium-sized) load of preprogrammed drumbeats. Surely there shoudl be an easy way to make your own drumbeats without slicing up existing ones or tapping them out on the keyboard, right? Maybe there is, maybe I'm being stupid and missing something, but what I want is a really easy, draggable loop creator, like I used to use in Fruityloops, but which then lets me record guitar and vocals over the top.

Is there some sort of free drum-machine thing I can download? Or a non-free thing? What do you all do when recording on your laptops/computers? I have a mac…
