OK so where do you draw the line

blisters [Edit] [Delete] 06:30, 23 July '11

on sickness, shock, affront etc in music.

I left a Brainbombs CD in the car last night and the g/f was driving around listening to it this morning, she's used to my musical tastes (and gets into some questionable shit herself) but thought that those guys take it way too far.

We've had these arguments before, e.g. Whitehouse, where her view is that those guys are beyond horrible, and that "supporting" them by buying their music is not only ethically wrong, but raises slightly disturbing questions about why I would want to listen in the first place.

I take the standard liberal position (i.e. the role of the artist is partly to push boundaries & offend), I admire Whitehouse's music because I like the sounds they make and am blown away by the power of the atmosphere they create, I think Brainbombs just fucking rock, and believe it should be possible for me to enjoy this without someone assuming I'm getting an erection coz the songs are all about sodomising women with screwdrivers or whatever.
