Albums that just don't work on mixtapes

funkycow [Edit] [Delete] 12:23, 19 August '11

Do you like making mixtapes? Are you frustrated when the production of a particular album makes its tracks standout when interspersed with other songs?

This is driven by my attempts to compile a 'heavy' mixtape (ok, audacity mix) of full on guitar music. Tilted (Sugar) and anything off Siamese Dream (Smashing Pumpkins) just sounded 'wrong' next to other tracks by the likes of Nirvana, Ministry, Pixies and RATM. Neither of the Sugar or SP albums sound oddly produced in isolation, they just don't compare well with others.

Perhaps I'm just being to fussy, but is this something that other DiSers find irritating.

Oh, and just in case, all the albums were original CDs extracted at 160kbps (and therefore there are no dodgy rips).
