Neo-Classical/Ambient Instrumental in 2011

wonton [Edit] [Delete] 21:08, 21 November '11

has been in rude health. So what are everyone's favourites? I'll round up a few obvious highlights:

A Winged Victory For The Sullen -S/T. Lovely submerged sounding record, quite lugubrious in places. Has a hypnotic pulasting pace as well, quite like a jellyfish.

Nils Frahm - Felt. The intimate recording techniques have drawn much praise, but I also love the stargazing sound it has. Possible AOTY.

Deaf Center - Owl Splinters. A little too forboding for me, it is in no doubt however that this mood is incapsulated perfectly, a really innovative album.

Jóhann Jóhannsson - The Miner's Hymn. An album with real character tat stands apart from his own work and that of contemporaries. Lovely mournful sound.

And a mention for the records by Kashiwa Daisuke and Tobias Hellkvist.
