8 is the commonest number that you'll ever do...

anyone else think that the general reviews here are slanted too high. 8 seems to be the average value thrown out these days...e.g. another three 8's from this mornings reviews, and of the nine reviews on the main page there are six 8's and one 9, 6 & 7, respectively. Now I would argue how much stock shoould be placed in numerical scores anyway.

I always thought Pitchforks decimal point placing was the ultimate example of modern rating/ranking/listing fetishism. And a lot of my favourite reviews come from The Quietus, partially because they cover the sort of music I like, but also because by avoiding giving a definitive point scale rating they put more focus on the review itself.

I guess my long winded point is, that if you are going to have a point-scale rating system, I think it should more fully use the full length of the scale, as a proliferation of 7's and 8's as average renders the whole thing pointless.
