For example, I hold in high regard the music of Sufjan Stevens from Michigan onwards, but while I know he released a couple of albums prior to this, I feel no compulsion to hear them. I don't know why, I just have a (probably irrational) feeling they couldn't possibly be as good as what came later, but I have nothing to base this on - I don't think I've even read anything that would lead me to suppose this.
