Do dance acts "remix" themselves as part of the writing/recording process?

Stuzza [Edit] [Delete] 13:51, 12 March '12

I was listening to the Blondes second CD in the car (just after my daughter had been sick everywhere in the back, but that's an incidental point of no relevance here) and it got me thinking.

I was thinking that remixes generally (or at least sometimes, please don't reply by quibbling with this next statement as that isn't really the point) take the very essence of a track, like a single lyric or motif or bass line or whatever and strip away everything else and either add loads of brilliant squiggly noises or add a bloody great drum track or whatever (see previous parantheses). So that got me wondering - do dance acts write and record in that way? Because I could see you'd write (what you thought was) an amazing song, leave it on the shelf for 3 months, come back to it and then apply the "remixer's mind" to it and do all the above and come out with something even betterer.

But maybe you wouldn't, actually. Maybe you'd end up with a one dimensional album of shallow brilliant sounding songs. Actually maybe this process applies not just to dance acts. I don't write songs so I don't know and thought I would ask.
