Misconceptions about songs/albums/bands you've held for ages and have been wrong

45rpm [Edit] [Delete] 23:18, 29 April '12

I was flicking through the music channels and saw the Walk of Life video by Dire Straits and my mate called them a 'great British band'. I agreed politely not looking like a tit because I was convinced they were American and looked at Wikipedia to discover they're from fucking NEWCASTLE.

I'd never bought their albums or investigated further but I did enjoy a couple of their videos I saw on TV.

I'd just assumed they were American due to the heavy use of US sports in the Walk of Life video and the country-ish twang to the song. The Money For Nothing video I also assumed was heavily tied to US MTV but apparently not. I'm still hesitant and think my mate's gone and altered Wikipedia to take the piss purely because it was something that I've grown up with thinking.

Has anything like this happened to you recently where you've been surprised?
