Polica - Give You The Ghost

Tiresias42 [Edit] [Delete] 20:30, 25 June '12

Bought this album after really loving track Sean linked somewhere and starting to regret it...all the stuff I loved from them at first are still there...and sorry to be classic indie snob or whatever here but it's the auto-tune.

I can understand using it to get a de-humanizing effect or such, but that's not what it does here, it's used almost tastefully to just smooth down the voice. Is then to make the vocals more substantial then? Well no since they add all kinds of echoes to it, so the plasticy auto-tune sound actually works against the spacey echoeyness of it.

Is it there to be caustic then, deliberately annoy listener? All it seems to do for me is to make me notice the autotuning more than actually listen...

Is this just me? Has my auto-tune prejudice meant that I can't hear auto-tune without it being loaded and sounding all plasticy and rubbish, does it work for other people? I just think it sounds so jarring. I don't mind the idea of bands using auto-tune for effect, but this just doesn't work, and feel I'd be raving about this album without it.

It feels like they added it cos Bon Iver made it cool or something (and indeed produced by Bon Iver bloke isn't it?) and that's annoying.

Otherwise bloody love everything else about it :(
