Question for bands- promoting a release

TheSoundofBastards [Edit] [Delete] 13:31, 5 July '12

Hey. Thought I'd ask on here and see what other experiences people have had.
My lot are releasing a new EP at some stage, and just wondering what the best use of resources would be, (insert "learn how to write some songs you idiots" joke here) or that other bands have found?

Is it still worth getting large numbers of physical product made up? I really can't see us selling many at all outside of gigs, having downloads available would negate this to some degree?

Our label mooted the idea of posters/flyers (like thousands of each?) which seemed odd to me, dunno where they'd go to, and if anyone would pay attention, particularly for an unknown band.

Anyone got any experience of using a press agent as well?

Apologies if this post is a bit messy, thanks in advance for any help!
