On Wednesday this week, DiS will be 12 years old. I haven't had time/money to organize a party this year, and we've not got some big stupid piece of self-congratulatory editorial planned - I'm just sorta stunned the site still exists, and that I've somehow not gone on to do something else with my life.

However, I'm a miserable bastard, and it's our birthday, so let's all drown in songs about drowning.... I have always had an idea of compiling a playlist of songs that are vaguely about drowning, being drowned, etc... There are quite a lot that aren't too literal. There are some that are bleak as hell. Or in the case of Mountain Goats, they manage to do both, whilst also being f'in funny.
