URBAN SOUNDSCAPES

still_here [Edit] [Delete] 02:17, 2 October '12

wanky, embarrassing term for it yeah? Probably, but it's probably the most universally understood term for the sort of stuff that you're supposed to recommend IN THIS THREAD.

Just in case you don't get what i mean though, I mean the sort of music that feels like alienation through isolation, using typically urban, bass-driven music. I feel like within that definition there's also the difference between the sort of resigned depression of stuff like Burial, and more sort of vaguely intimidating feeling some other stuff has. I imagine hip hop is much better for the latter kind of stuff, so recommendations of that sort would be COOL especially cos i know fuck all about hip hop and it's a bit embarrassing and i'm not sure if it's more racist to not listen to hip hop at all or to listen to hip hop just because you feel it would make you less racist, so i see this opportunity, to listen to stuff i'll probably like without actually having to understand what rapping's all about, as a nice way to CIRCUMVENT this issue*.

Anyway so yeah, there's that. If anyone has a better definition of what i mean, then that'd be cool. Actually i just remembered some twat called this sort of stuff Night Bus didn't they? Night Bus can fuck off. Sounds like something someone who listens to Zane Lowe would call it.

Also, there needs to be a focus much more on atmosphere than anything else. Or else theyre not SOUNDSCAPES. Obviously.

Nothing is too obvious, cos i probably haven't heard it because i'm lazy. Except Burial. Burial is too obvious.

*I'm possibly being tongue in cheek, douchebags of the music board. YEAH YOU.
