What new bands are good and gigging around London at the moment?

theguywithnousername [Edit] [Delete] 13:15, 24 October '12

I'm putting a gig on in December. I've got a couple of acts booked and a few more ideas of bands I might approach but am interested in knowing of anyone I might not know about.

At the moment I've got a band that's a bit influenced by Blondie and Stories from the City... era PJ Harvey and a band that are influenced by Momus, Nick Cave, Babybird and Angela Carter.

I'm after things that are sort of outsider pop - i.e. unusual and interesting but essentially song-based, are fun/entertaining to watch live. Pretentiousness and theatricality are absolutely fine but I'm not so keen on self-consciously wacky/ironic stuff. Narrative lyrics a definite bonus... Any good suggestions?

PS Jags are welcome but only if you're proper lad with a proper haircut...
