Whitey - Kickstarter campaign for tour and physical release of back catalogue

xheathenx [Edit] [Delete] 21:14, 13 December '12

Announced on his facebook page this evening.

He's been punting stuff out on bandcamp for a while and with the various threads about <item> killing the music industry I thought that helping to publicise a self-funded, truly independent musician's aim to put his music out in a 'real' format would be a good and beneficial thing.

Despite the quality of his work (which as a fan, I am heavily biased towards), I've rarely seen any press about him. Even rarer to hear anyone talk about his work either, neither of these situations is particularly satisfactory.

If you like the idea of musicians being able to remove the music industry's foot from their neck then this is something you should at least pay attention to, regardless of whether you like his work.

He isn't Radiohead, he isn't Trent Reznor, he doesn't have a decade or more of industry backing to help him take this independent path.

If you're going to be bought and sold, be your own pimp. At least that way you'll get a fair share of the take, whatever that may be.

Support the independent artist.

And coming from a serial (and often unashamed) copyright infringer, this may all seem a bit rich, but i've spent more money on bandcamp sites in the last month than i have in any other music outlet, digital or actual in the last 8 years.

Mainly because the money is going as directly as possible to the people who's music I'm listening to rather than a gaggle of distributors, lawyers, agents, managers, reps, administrators and ultimately shareholders.
