Bank Holiday Monday that was the week that was listening recap thread (past-it.fm stats tolerated)

Good afternoon.

So what have you been listening to this week? Tell us all about it.

I started off the week on a bit of a Sir Richard Bishop tip. I never get bored of listening to him mangle Arabic guitar patterns. Also, I heard his new collaboration with that Egyptian band and it's really very good, but I'm not sure when it'll be available for purchase or in what numbers.

I still really like the Hookworms album, deserved of the hype, though it is interesting to see how they seem to appeal to people who normally wouldn't touch that sort of thing with a barge pole. Also put Todd on for the first time in ages -now there is a UK noise rock group you can set your watch to.

Stand! by Sly & the Family Stone is a strange one, huh? So light hearted and upbeat, after There's A Riot Goin On. I prefer the dark heart soul, personally. Which is why I spent a lot of time listening to War's Four Cornered Room. For Earth fans who've been enjoying the new stuff, you really need to secure a copy of this record.

Vatican Shadow just confirmed a date over here so have been listening to his stuff. It's good but gets very samey, and I often have a 'why am I not just listening to Muslimgauze?' moment. I reckon it'll be great live though, Fernow knows how to put on a show if Prurient is anything to go by.

I also had a listen to the last Baroness album. I thought it was ok but didn't realise they'd become a Pink Floyd stadium tribute band. Sad stuff about their injured band members.

I am now listening to Dopesmoker by Sleep and opting not to leave my sofa.
