Stage presence; Or, bands that absolutely kill it live

robluvsnic [Edit] [Delete] 14:25, 9 February '14

Saw Savages last night. While I rate their album (had it in my top 10 for 2013), I was a little bemused at the hype they had received early on.

Now, having seen them live, it all makes sense. They were incredible. Draw-droppingly good. Part of it was developing a better appreciation of how artfully the songs have been put together, and recognising that these women can really fucking play (the bassist is incredible to watch).

But a big part of it was simply stage presence. They know how to put on a show, how to hold your attention. The singer is obviously central to this (though all of them were captivating to watch performing). It's got me wondering about how much of a correlation there is between stage presence (an elusive and arguable quality, no doubt) and having a dedicated vocalist.

Anyway, talk to me about bands' live performances versus their recordings. Who are some other acts you think have got it? Not just in a they're-really-good-live sense, but in a taking-it-to-a-whole-other-level sense — the kind of performance that has you starting a thread about it on DiS, for instance.

Or just tell me what you think of Savages, if you've seen them live.
