death of the CD?

According to this article in the US iTunes has out sold tower records and borders. It goes on to predict the slow and steady death of the CD. Does anyone here buy legal downloads over CD's or Vinyl? Personally, for me downloads are for researching new music and If Im sufficiently impressed I buy the CD or less often the vinyl version. For me there is someting perverse about paying for a download particularly the iTunes format which cant be played on anything but iTunes.

Also , if we're told CD's are now yesterdays news how do people feel about changing to a new format or even going completely digital? Vinyl and the humble cassette have become objects of nostalgia, but will the same thing happen to the CD anytime soon or well we hold onto the CD for 5/10 years more?
