1999

The aforementioned Prince album might well head this list except that it was released many years earlier.

Truth is, I didn't do any research at all for the 1985 thread but rather invented thread *after* pulling out the Dino jr album Bug. Now, it's been brought to my attention that Bug was released in 1988, but it *does* in fact say "1985 and 2005 copyright Merge records blah blah etc" on the back cover. There's a lesson here kids. Don't believe everything you read. Especially if it's the New York Times.

Moving right along. This time I did Google "best albums of 1999" and will save ya all's the trouble of the taxing research I went through: http://www.rocklist.net/1999.html

You'll find FL's Soft Bulletin, ToD's Madonna, Magnetic Field's 69 Love Songs amongst others. Based on this list I'd have to say it was a fair year at best. This seems to be a period when Limp Bizkut dominated things, when rap/rock's popularity warranted walking in front of a moving bus. Thank the gods the world pulled itself together enough to make rap/rock the punchline to jokes instead of the staple of today's music scene.

Pavement - Terror Twilight
