I see people mention Weezer on these boards from time to time. I just don't get it!

Are they a novelty band or a serious band. Everthing i've heard seems to be silly kiddy rock, they kind of thing my 12 year old neice would like.

If they have some serious stuff please tell me where it is as they just sound silly to me.
