Panic At The Disco and Emo

wrightylew [Edit] [Delete] 18:12, 20 April '06

For me, I categorize music as emo, if it both sounds emo musically (Fall Out Boy), and if the lyrics are there (Dashboard Confessional).

The thing is, when I first heard Panic at the D, I heard 'Lying is the most fun...', and instantly called it emo. I still hold to that, but when I hear the rest of their record, I can't bring myself to see it as Emo.

The production is there on a few of the songs, like 'I Write Sins' (I mean the scratchy guitars and the squeaky yank vocals), but a lot of the songs sound like guitar-pop stuff, or even fairly unique. Towards the end of the record, the last few tracks don't even have much guitar in them, and are all brassy and stringed etc.

And as for the lyrics, apart from 'Lying is the most fun...', I don't see anything even slightly emotional.

What do you think? What are they?
