If a band that you really love suddenly lose all inspiration (often along with key band members) can you listen back on their early work and still enjoy it the same, or does the thought of how it's all gone wrong affect your listening enjoyment?

Do I sound mental?

I'm thinking of people like Helmet (who went from the mindbending excellence of Strap it on and Betty to the jawdropping lameness of aftertaste and size matters) and Grandaddy, who just seemed to wither away and die after the Sophtware Slump. I can still enjoy the early works of both of these but now, somehow, it's not the same.
