Untouchable Artists

Thought_Dreams [Edit] [Delete] 01:34, 3 June '06

So often on this website arguments about the relative merits of a band end with some one posting something along the lines ‘It’s just an opinion and I’m entitled to one as much as anyone else’, leaving aside the gaping chasm that is the objective/subjective debate and how boring such a statement is, do you think there exists a category of artist who it’s simply invalid to have a negative opinion on?

In other words are there artists that if someone can’t appreciate then they clearly don’t like music? You don’t necessarily have to like such artists, but it should become apparent upon listening to them that they ooze so much originality, creativeness, beauty, emotion and incisiveness that to criticise them is a flawed exercise? And if such artists exist what are your nominations? Being conservative I’d only nominate Bob Dylan, Miles Davis and John Fahey to begin with.
