Is there a place for saxomaphones in the world of rock?

IndieAndy_Jones [Edit] [Delete] 12:41, 19 June '06

So I went to be see a friend-of-a-friends band on saturday, and this band had a saxophone player. At times, the saxophone sounded good (mostly when it was used minimally) but at other times it just kind of ruined the song and made them sound quite MOR. To put it in context, the band was quite chilled out and not dissimilar to Willy Mason.

Are there any good examples of saxophone use in the indie/rock scene? The Verve got away with it on their first album, but that's about the only example I can think of.

Also, if you don't like saxophones, does that make you a saxophobe?
