Fancy an old-fashioned D(iS)ebate? With a capital D?

orsonwellesrabbit [Edit] [Delete] 17:53, 22 March '10

We haven't had one of these for a while (5 minutes or so).

Anyway, here's the article which inspired the thread:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2010/mar/22/multiculturalism-blame-culture-segregation

So, what do you think of the way multiculturalism has "turned out"? Is it divisive, despite being well-intentioned? Is it easy for white, middle-class commentators to argue in favour of the "experiment" when they aren't, generally speaking, the ones who have to...accommodate...the influx of migrants? Or has living in multicultural society forced us to confront attitudes we thought we'd left behind? What advantages does a multicultural society have over a segregated one? Does anyone "suffer" economically, socially, etc, so the rest of us can enjoy the benefits of a M/C society? Has it failed? Was it always bound to fail, if you think it has?

DiScuss.
