I'm not strictly opposed to the "classics"...but just don't do it! Something modern. Let's say Graham Greene is the cut off--you know what I mean!

Me to you:
Gillian Flynn - Sharp Objects. Story of 2nd rate newspaper gal, who has a sharp wit and likes to cut herself, investigating a murder in her home town.

Ch. 1

"My sweater was new, stinging red and ugly. It was May 12 but the temperature had dipped to the forties, and after four days shivering in my shirtsleeves, I grabbed cover at a tag sale rather than dig through my boxed-up winter clothes. Spring in Chicago.

In my gunny-covered cubicle I sat staring at the computer screen. My story for the day was a limp sort of evil...."

A limp sort of evil!! This chick, Flynn, has a way with words, seriously!! I highly recommend.
