Sequels aren't exactly a new invention so I'm not going to blather on about current cinema trends scraping barrels or the destruction of film's integrity etc, but I am starting to gall slightly at how often films just don't 'end', ahem, these days.

I've no problem with sequels. Aliens is one of my favourite films ever. But I think that's partly because its predecessor, like Aliens, was a complete story in itself. I saw [REC] 2 last night (it's a bit naff, btw) and it didn't really end. Obviously it reached a point where the credits rolled, but its conclusion was more like that of an ongoing television show, which pissed me off. I don't mind that the writers have devleloped an arc which needs several films to be told, I just want each installment to feel a bit more complete. It strikes me as pretty weak story tellling.

Does it bother you at all? Any other examples you'd care to share?
