IWL/ISL interface

robluvsnic [Edit] [Delete] 16:15, 4 June '10

in-work-life/in-social-life

Do you ever bump into people you've interacted with for work purposes when you're in social situations?

I'm not talking about going out with colleagues you work with all the time. I'm thinking mainly of those of us who work in some kind of public/customer service position, but it could apply to anyone whose work involves routinely dealing with a range of people from outside the organisation. You're out and about doing something innocuous like buying socks, or waiting for a train, or urinating in a bin on the way home after a bender, and then you bump into someone you've had service relations with, and you're both fully aware of it.

How do you respond to these chance encounters?

Me, I wish the people I have to deal with for work purposes were teleported in from Mars and straight back out again once they were done (and that includes the vast majority of my work colleagues). And I treat any such folk as though they *were* from Mars.

What about you?

Alternatively, regale us with entertaining tales of awesome/awkward IWL/ISL interfaces.
