My birthday is coming up and I thought I'd use it as an excuse to pick up a few books from my ever-generous parents. I'd like some suggestions for good graphic novels where I won't have to buy a million other books to finish the series (Sandman, Preacher etc). I'm happy to consider superhero stuff that isn't too reliant on reading tons of other proceeding comics.
