Favourite people on the 'DON'T STONE THE IRANIAN' list?

wrightylew [Edit] [Delete] 10:47, 9 July '10

'Emily Eavis, Festival organiser'
'Colin Firth, Actor'
'Tracey Emin, Artist'

I wonder if they rang The Times to ask if they could be included in the outrage. I think Juliette Binoche's comments were the hardest hitting: "I love Iran and its people but now my heart bleeds for this beautiful country."

Despite the fact the Iranian Government's official press release this morning is along the lines of:

"We were never going to stone her to death. We haven't stoned anyone to death in absolutely ages and we don't plan on doing it now. She'll get some other punishment. So stop crying and leave us alone."

... The Times' front page is: "IRANIANS BACK DOWN".

I think this is a victory for freedom and democracy. All those lovely people who signed the letter should feel really good about themselves, safe in the knowledge that Mrs Ashtiani will be spending the rest of her days in a lovely Iranian prison.
