Fucking iTunes

umlaut_ampersand [Edit] [Delete] 10:01, 21 July '10

By some distance, the worst software I have ever had the dubious pleasure of using. And I grew up in the days when you would stick a cassette tape in a Spectrum and had to sit there and watch it retch neon geometry on to your monitor, gargling away like a schizophrenic fax machine, before realising 20 minutes later that it had crashed.

I have an iPod Touch which, in its own right, is a beautiful piece of technology. In particular, the touch screen still feels like it is actually from the future. But since ‘updating’ iTunes and\or the iPod software recently, it now takes a minimum of four hours to stick one new album on.

Basically, iTunes and I go round and round in circles trying to decide whether we’re syncing or not, whether I’m using the same iPod or not, same computer or not. Even though I use the same stuff every single time. Its new trick is wiping all 9,000 tracks and any apps I have on there and then kindly ‘restoring’ them for me over a very long wait indeed. Best of all, the fucker has now started charging me (i.e. sending me email receipts for purchases without asking me for credit card authorisation) to re-install the same apps it wiped off in the first place.

Anyway, anyone got any advice\bile they care to share?

In particular about the most effective route for complaining and getting a refund out of Apple…
