I'm reading it for the first time. Or rather I'm reading it properly after buying it 8 years ago, starting it, getting distracted and leaving it on my bookshelf.

Anyway, it's a Penguin Popular Classics edition the translation is very 'old style' leading me to wonder who it's by. Amazon only have a US print available in their 'Look Inside' which is one by Constance Garnett:

It's definitely NOT that translation and I don't like Garnett's one at all: comparing the first page of my edition with the one there it's quite amazing how different they are. But given hers was done in 1914 it feels much more modern in tone.

Maybe a more modern one would be a very different read as I'm presuming from the style of this Penguin one that it's maybe a very early form.
