There were two proper clever lads in my year.

Both got straight As at A level. One went to Oxford to study pure mathematics and the other went to Georgia Tech in America to do Analytical Chemistry (Anal Chem on his application form).

The science student is now a proper scientist working for a company that is attempting to make scent detectors based on the anatomy of a dog's nose. This was predictable.

The maths graduate is a vicar. This was undpredictable.
