best: Lass O'Gowrie - good food, decent selection of beers (although I don't approve of the decision to replace Budvar with Estrella Damm) and, best of all, dodgy foreign satellite to watch 3 o'clock kick-offs on. Bit on the pricey side but probably the best pub in Manchester as far as I know. There are also pictures on the walls signed by local luminaries such as Johnny Vegas, which is always a plus point.

Honourable mention to the Temple off Oxford Street, situated in a former public convenience and holds about 15 people at a push, and the Circus Tavern, regularly frequented by Bumble Lloyd and Mark Radcliffe and the roughly the size of a terraced house.

worst: Joshua Brooks - it's run by students, which pretty much tells you all you need to know. The beer tastes like piss, the entire pub stinks like piss, and there are massive pillars everywhere blocking your view of the big screen unless you're sat right in front of it. O'Shea's down the road is also quite depressing - I went in there to watch the League Cup the other night and they couldn't get the sound on, so the whole game was accompanied by a pseudo-Celtic soft rock soundtrack. Gash.

so what about yours? I'm off work *all* of next week, so if anyone has any suggestions as to which Manchester pubs I should investigate, fire away. I might go and make a nuisance of myself in the Briton's Protection at some point, I've never actually been in there.
