what purpose is boredom, evolutionary speaking? is being self aware a prerequisite, or can non-self aware things feel boredom too?

and what even causes it? i dont mean 'my job lol!', but the chemical or whatever thingies.

if you could take a drug that made it so that you COULDNT feel boredom, but otherwise be exactly the same, would you take it?
