'Chlorine in swimming pools is responsible for today's number of cancer sufferers'

chris_is_cool [Edit] [Delete] 17:02, 31 October '10

Okay so I had this conversation with a guy at work today. He jumped out the pool to ask me this and this is how the conversation went.

Him: Excuse me, how much chlorine is in the pool today?

Me: About 4.8mg per square metre, I just checked it and we're lowering it gradually, but don't worry this is well within the limit.

Him: Do you not use any other cleaning method?

Me: No we use the chlorine and acid combo

Him: That's so old fashioned

Me: Really? I thought most pools used this, certainly the ones I've been to and worked at have.

Him: Well, no they don't, a place as modern as this should be using ultra violet cleaning.

Me: Never heard of it.

Him: The chemicals are horrible, all the chemicles in swimming pools are responsible for the number of cancer sufferers in society today

Me: Oh...okay

Him: I wont be swimming here again, or joining the gym.

Now obviously he's going way over the top, but is there any way that using chlorine/acid combos in swimming pools could be linked to any form of trigger of cancer or anything? Seems a bit of a silly idea being as the majority of pools use it....if it was so dangerous then they wouldn't use it right?

Bloody people.
