Subtitles

shinymcshine [Edit] [Delete] 20:18, 1 November '10

Has anyone else noticed the recent trend in documentaries to subtitle people who are not speaking perfect English?

It is pretty insulting as far as I'm concerned and just hints at a culture where people refuse to try and understand people who speak slightly different e.g. Non-native speakers or those with thick regional accents.

I used to work in a call centre, it was grim, but it made me who I am today. You wouldn't believe the amount of people who would ask to speak to someone who spoke English. I have a Glaswegian accent but it's not all that thick and I don't speak in slang.

Are you an ignorant bastard or do you try to understand those who don't speak in RP?
