I'm guessing lots of DiS types have done this? How does it usually work out?

I'm planning on going to the Philippines in the summer for maybe 5 or 6 weeks. I figure this gives me enough time to work out how do stuff and get places, to do stuff at get places, and to have time to not do stuff. Oh, if anyone's been to the Philippines, tips there would also be much appreciated.

But I don't know how easy it is for things to just... work... like that, you know? Does it become a massive hassle finding transport and places to sleep and etc? Does it get lonely? Or boring? I mean, that one I probably don't mind so much... I could just study.

Anyhow, does the "draw up a vague plan and then decide what to do over the time you're there" = not really do anything / massively underestimate costs / etc?

So, yeah, just long holiday advice, essentially...
