Spilling liquids on computers is fun...

OvertakenByTractors [Edit] [Delete] 02:20, 29 November '10

But if it's going to die because of the spill how long would it last before its demise? Would it definitely die within an hour, say?

In a rather comical slapstick routine, I tripped over a printer cable attached to another laptop, which in turn knocked a cup of lukewarm tea splashing aforementioned tea onto the keyboard of my macbook pro. At least I think that's what happened (happened too fast...)

The splash reached my screen, a couple of the ports, and the keyboard. Like three little pools of tea around a couple of the keys.

I turned the computer off, tipped my computer to see if anything would come out (it didn't), and removed a couple of keys to see the extent of the spill (there was a tiny amount under one key and none that I could see under others). I then spent a painful period replacing a key (because the spring mechanism had become dislodged as it always does...who designed those stupid things?!) and then cleaned the screen and ports. There is no noticeable damage as yet; the computer, on which I am now typing, started up and is running smoothly and as quietly as ever.

But I am MEGA-paranoid. Could the small amount I noticed under one key reach the motherboard or whatever it's called and thereby bring destruction?

Any other liquid spill-computer anecdotes (probably not)...?
