Seeing as we're all here, shall we just agree to drop it from now on. There are afterall plenty of other tonal devices in speech that are not represented in text, so why bother with the question mark. Why is there not a symbol for a tone of mocking, embarassment or hurt.

No doubt somebody here will have already given this more thought than me and will be able to shoot me down. Go for it.
